Hijab Revival Competition!

Yes this time Hijab Revival is holding its own competition with prizes bought from my own money. I dont know what the prizes will be but trust me when I say they will ROCK! Most likely jewels, cosmetics and hijabs. Anywho the reason why I am giving something away is because what I am about to ask of you, my lovely TALENTED readers is pretty full on and requires some skill. What I want is someone to draw a caricature of me so that I can utilise it in some way. I've always wanted a caricature but have never had the opportunity to have one drawn. And when I say caricature I mean like a cartoon, sort of like a bobble head toy (so big head, exaggerated features and small body)
Also, if you are really good at realistic drawings then that is fine too. It can be in colour or black and white thought I do prefer colour. Also you can make it as creative as you like!!

I was invited to a ladies night last night which was heaps of fun and very unique! The girls looked gorgeous but alas I could not take any pictures as they were not wearing hijab. May Allah s.w.t protect their life together and give them lots of barakat and children!! Amin!!

Product Review ~ Modest Sea Swimwear

I was emailed a short while ago by the lovely owner of swimwear website Modest Sea and asked if I would like to review one of her products. Needless to say I was definitely on board as I have never owned any sort of swimwear. Straight away I jumped onto her website to see what sort of selection she had and boy was I impressed! Not only did she have a super classy and organised website, but she also has the most amazing modest swimwear collection I have ever seen. One of the best features I noticed was the fact that they cater not only to hijabi women but also to women who may not be hijabi but still want to maintain their modesty so the variety huge. Now I am going to be 100% honest and tell you that I am not the biggest fan of the traditional burkini's as I think I would feel claustrophobic in it (due to the head piece) so I decided to go for the Stephanie swimsuit and alter it with a skirt and hijab to make it more modest. When my family and I go to the beach we drive out to more secluded areas where there are no people around so I thought this swimsuit is right up my alley.
The Product:
As soon as I stepped into the swimsuit I was amazed at how soft and stretchy it was! It literally moulded to my shape and felt like a second skin. I felt no constriction or discomfort at all which was something I thought was a given with all swimwear. It comes with a zip at the front for easy access and also ends in 3 1/4 pants. It is waterproof and it also keeps you insulated from the cool water. The water simply glides off your body when wearing this suit. You can seriously do gymnastics in this outfit that's how comfortable it is!

All in all I give this swimsuit a 10/10 as it totally delivers and ticks all the boxes to make one fantastic swimsuit! Mecca Bah

I went out to dinner with my family to a place called Mecca Bah here in Melbourne. It has a Mediterranean inspired menu and the best thing about it is its HALAL! It is located in the trendy Docklands area near the bay which is just gorgeous. After dinner we went for a drive in the city to enjoy summer and digest our food :) Warm weather combined with the scents of ocean and delicious food? Priceless.
P.s sorry about the crappy outfit shot. I will tell you what I wore: A 100% silk military style Sass and bide dress with zip front and attached capelet, a black stretchy pencil skirt underneath, my nude heels and silk Burberry hijab.

Recent Makeup Look with Sigma

Just a quick post about a recent make-up look I did for a client using my Sigma brushes. It was a purple smoky eye for an engagement party and my sigma brushes were perfect for the look! Tiddalik the Thirsty Frog at the Melbourne Museum

I received 3 tickets to the Melbourne Museum as part of Product Talk by Nuffnang in order to view the production Tiddalik the Thirsty Frog:

"Explore this Victorian Aboriginal creation story belonging to the Gunai people of Gippsland. The story follows the thirst of a small frog whose greed has him drinking all of the world’s water, leaving all the animals and plants thirsty and withering.

How will the animals force Tiddalik to return the water? A wise old wombat suggests that if they can make the giant, bloated frog laugh he will spill out all of the water. Will the animals make Tiddalik laugh?'

This production was so cute and suitable for children and adults of all ages. I took my 2 and a half year old son and he was mesmerised! The most exciting and engaging part of this show was the hands on frog mask painting at the end. My son and his cousins had the opportunity to sit down and get busy with colourful paint and plastic frog masks!

Each production runs for about 20 minutes and will be showing from the 3rd to the 31st of January 2012 (Please click here for session times and more information)

After the show and activities, I went for a stroll through this exciting museum and had such a ball enjoying the old and new features and exhibits. I have been to the museum so many times but I am never sick of it! I can go over and over again and still see something new!

Arabesque

I went to a restaurant a week ago with my sister, niece and friend called Arabesque. It is a fusion restaurant that serves Turkish/Arabic/Moroccan style food and I must say that it was simply divine! I have not had food this good in a long time. Every morsel was mouth watering and jam packed with flavour. We ordered the banquet which meant we were brought different dishes one after the other. There was a constant flow of food that smelt so good you jumped into the next dish before finishing the first! I will definitely go again Inshallah!!

I didn't know if it was a restaurant that called for casual or more polished so I went for an in-between look with my new long sleeve Alexander Wang dress I shop-bopped and added my gold plate necklace, multi colour silk hijab, Antik Batik tassel belt (used as a bag accessory) maroon crocodile effect leather clutch and my platform heels.
Overall it was a really comfy and wearable outfit that also looked polished enough for this restaurant. The dress actually has a crossover design at the back that I forgot to take a picture of. It can actually be worn back to front so the crossover part drapes over your midriff area to create a slimming look.

Product Review and Competition ~ Wahat Aljalabiya

Salams my lovelies!!

So I was sent a jalabiya by the company Wahat Aljalabiya, a huge franchise with 79 branches in the middle east. They have a huge variety of kaftans, jilbabs, jalabiyas, abayas in a multitude of colours and gorgeous fabrics. The funny thing is that they emailed me with the suggestion that they send me this particular jalabiya as it had a kind of (and I quote) 'Aussi Crocodile' look to it! That made me laugh so much as it sort of does with its brown, beige and gold tones, kind of like the Australian Desert/Crocodile skin. Yay for being an Aussie! :)

The jalabiya is to an absolute pleasure to wear as it is 100% cotton and perfect for our hot Aussie summers. I actually wore this in 37c degree heat (98.6F) and it kept me so cool as it allowed the breeze to enter the natural fabric. It was also really comfortable as it wasn't tight or constricting.

To style this beautiful piece I thought I would shnazzy it up by wearing my woven platform heels in a similar tone to the jalabiya and a snake skin clutch with a nude satin hijab. I think the overall look would be absolutely be appropriate for a night out with friends or a dinner party as it has that gorgeous golden embroidery on the neckline to make it stand out. Having said that this can also be worn in a more casual manner swapping the heels for strappy flats and changing the hijab from satin to a cotton shawl hijab in a beige or brown tone.

Pretty Things

I have had these sunglasses for what seems like donkeys years (meaning a long time) and i never wear them as they make my scarf stick out at the sides. I was considering selling them but for some reason cant get myself to do it. They are just to glamorous and pretty!
Plus they have sentimental value as they were gifted to me by my lovely sister Ebru from Sorayya :)

Product Review ~ Rayannes Design

Hello Again! Here I am with another fantastic product review for your viewing pleasure!
Today I have a simple, elegant and modest abaya from the delightful Rayannes Design Australia. When we were discussing what can be sent to me for review, I instantly knew I wanted the Mermaid Abaya in a neutral colour for easy styling and wear. It is such an amazing piece with its quirky detail on the hem of the abaya (resembles a mermaids tail hence the name). The plus side to this design is that as it draws attention to the bottom of the abaya, it makes you look slimmer and more stream lined.

The colour is also perfect as you can wear it with any colour you choose, whether it be bright, neutrals or chic black for a more grown up night time look. The length of the abaya is quite long (mine is a medium) which is something I like as I can wear heels under it without it looking short plus the length makes you look nice and tall (which = tall and slim!)
The fabric is a cotton/poly fabric that does not crease as you wear it and it also features a zip in the front for all you nursing mummies out there! Genius!
Sizes range between XS to XXXL.

Here is the abaya styled with a skinny black belt for a more dressy ladies night look.

Product Review ~ Earthy Mamma

Today I have something a little different to review then the usual clothing/bags/jewels. I received an email from the lovely Dalal at Earthy Mamma asking me if I would like to review some of her organic and bio-degradable products here on the blog. I thought it would be something new and different for some of you who are concerned about the environment and your well being.
Earthy Mamma is an Australian based company. Here is the overview on their website:
Earthy Mamma is a mum to one beautiful boy and studies full time at university. She embarked on the journey of motherhood with one aim in mind to road test as many natural, eco-friendly and organic products as possible, this way she could provide only the best quality alternative products for her family. Earthy Mamma wanted to pass on all her research and findings from dozens of experiments to all the mum's out there and to save them scouring 100's of website and stores in search of the perfect product!

So I was sent four products and they are from left to right: 1) Dish washing liquid 2) Disinfectant 3) Bathroom cleaner 4) Hand sanitiser

The first product I tried out was the hand sanitiser as this was something that I was really interested in. As a mum hand sanitiser is always in my bag for my son who loves to touch EVERYTHING. This particular hand sanitiser is non-toxic and kills germs without the use of alcohol! That gives it a straight A+ in my books and my son loves the fact that it is in a spray bottle which is easy for him to use on his own. I love the smell and texture of this product as it dries without leaving a greasy feel afterwards. i have been using this product everyday pretty much and really like it and definitely recommend it. Here is the info:

minimises the risk of cross contamination
from tactile contact.
Soft and gentle on the skin and safe for children. Waterless, non- rinse hypoallergenic formula with

The next product I used was the dish washing liquid. This product definitely does what it claims it can. It has a thick foamy consistency and froths really well giving your dishes a beautiful clean. I love the fact that this product is organic and biodegradable and also great for sensitive skin!

Very thick formula
extremely gentle on hands
great for eczema sufferers

The last two products I used were the disinfectant and the bathroom cleaner. I took the disinfectant with me

on a recent BBQ trip thinking it will come in handy with the cleanup of the meat products and boy did it help!

I mopped up chicken juice, meat juice and anything else that required disinfecting such as the salt shaker and

bench tops. It gives everything that squeaky clean feeling and you just know all the germs and nasties are

gone by the great fresh smell it leaves behind. This is fast becoming one of my favourite products to use

everywhere I go.

The bathroom cleaner is a non corrosive product that kills bacteria and removes soap scum and lime scale.

What I love about this product is that it is safe to inhale (unlike many other bathroom products that make you

dizzy just from smelling it!) It is also a certified organic product.

Overall these products are a must have in your home. If you are health concience then think about the kinds of chemicals you are exposing your self and your family to everyday. With Earthy Mamma at least you know you are using safe, organic and healthy products that wont harm the environment or your family.

Road Trip To Woodend and Beyond!

I went on another trip to a little town called Wood End here in Melbourne with my niece and friend and fellow blogger Samira from Trendy Melbourne. I am always blown away by the beauty of nature and I always say Subhanallah at Allah s.w.t's creations as it is absolute perfection. I always say that a camera can never capture the beauty seen through our eyes as it cannot capture the air, the smells, the sounds and the atmosphere, and with that one must always thank Allah for giving us that gift to enjoy what He has created!

Ok so it is fast becoming apparent that I love my breakfasts.. As do all Turkish people (and I am sure many other nationalities) And today I was the guest of honour (lol mayyybbeee not) of a delicious banquet thrown by none other then my niece. She invited family and friends to enjoy not only the yummy food but also her quaint and gorgeous backyard. I wanted to dress up a little as I was in the mood so I wore a sequined jumper and a hot pink shawl hijab with heels but changed my shoes later on to a pair of comfy leather thongs. I tried my hijab in a different style today reminiscent of the new silk shawl craze over in Turkey where they throw the long ends over their shoulders. Another Wog Breakfast

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a Turkish style BIG breakfast at a friends house. You know I love my food so of course I had to attend and boy am I glad I did. The feast was spread outside in the sunshine on a loooooong table and there was such a variety of goodies I didn't know where to start! I will let the pictures do the talking.

So there are a few things I need to talk to you about and answer a few questions that have been asked millions of times but being the fish brain that I am ALWAYS FORGET!

So first of all Inshallah I will be making a tutorial on how I have been wearing my hijab very very soon so stay tuned!
Secondly, I will also be making a tutorial on how I burn the edges of my home made hijabs for all you lovely ladies who requested!!
Thirdly, so many of you have asked me about the black skirt I wear frequently and where I have purchased it from, I have about 4 of these skirts and only one was bought. I bought a wool version from www.asos.com but the rest were made by my very own mamma out of fabric I bought myself. They are very stretchy and with an elastic waist for comfort.

The New Year Has Come Again..

Once again the new year has arrived. This is usually the time one reflects on what we have achieved, have we reached our goals and what we have acquired. Personally the new year has never held any speciality for me. It has always been another night, another day, another year. There are only two things that I like about new years, 1) The beautiful fireworks ( I mean, who doesn't love watching those gorgeous colours sparkle in the night sky?) 2) Thanking my creator for blessing me with all that he has given me and allowing me to breath another day and to that I always say ALHUMDULILLAH!
My family has never celebrated the new year and personally I love this aspect of my forming years as I now hold the same view point and values. I personally think that we should be pouring more of our celebratory energy into special occasions that are important to Muslims. I am definitely not judging. Whatever and each to their own and if you do celebrate then I hope you do so safely! So to end this note, I say inshallah we all have a halal, beautiful and Iman filled 2012 that brings only happiness and barakat to us all! Please forgive me if I have ever offended any of you and thank you for being such a lovely bunch of people!! See you in 2012 Inshallah!!

Oh a quick word about my hijab, I actually bought this material to match my silk blouse. I bought it from a fabric store called Spotlight here in Australia and cut it to size according to another shawl scarf I have at home Then I got a long stem candle and burnt the edges so that it doesn't fray. Does anyone else do this? Would you like me to show you all?

Weekend Wear ~ Out Lunching

Some very dear to my heart pictures taken of me lunching in the city by none other then my son mashallah! I want to EAT him! It was a very warm day so I chose a venue near water so the cool breeze would waft over me as I ate. I also did a little clashing with patters but there was a reason behind it. My top is a cotton nautical inspired dress and the only hijabs I had that matched were satin but the thought of wearing satin in that heat made me cringe so I chose this baby pink silk shawl which kept me much cooler and despite the fact that it didn't match my dress I really couldn't care.. Comfort is key for me on the weekends :)

PoP of Colour For A Special Night

I celebrated a special night tonight and wanted to wear something that was different and yet totally my style. I love this peachy/pinky/watermelony colour oh so much and wanted it to be the stand out feature of my outfit so I made sure everything I was wearing was black except my peach Flinstones necklace and of course the beautiful silk peach maxi jacket :)

Stormy Maxi Skirt

Some shots of my outfit from a small function I attended last night. This skirt was called the 'Stormy' maxi skirt and it kinda fit last nights weather which was warm but overcast. I just realised that it looks like a dress! Let me assure you that it isn't and it really is a skirt, just a really long one! I wore a black top tucked into it and even though it was a women s only event I was too embarrassed to take off my cardigan as the skirt is skin tight :S

Lost Treasures..

Have you ever put things away into a bag with the intention of getting rid of them and then never actually do? I do that all the time, especially with clothes and I usually stuff everything I don't want/wear into a big bag and then chuck them into the garage. Well I lugged that 'unwanted' bag back into the house and found a dress in there that I had purchased off the Internet from the USA and instantly thought WHY WAS I THROWING THIS OUT? It is a dark grey silk and designed in the shift dress style but the cream on top is its totally unique metal buttons that look handmade. It is such a comfy/chic dress I wonder why I ever got rid of it to begin with? Anyway I saved it, love it and wore it to lunch with the famz on the weekend and then forgot to take a full picture of it for my lovely readers :( You can see it sneaking out from under my trench but Inshallah I will wear it again and take a full shot of it next time :)

Graduation 2011

My gorgeous niece graduated from high school last night alhumdulillah! She looked STUNNING mashallah!!
I loved her dress which suited her body to a tee and her hijab was elegant with no OTT designs. I love a simple hijab rather then a super busy one. I added a recent purchase of mine onto her hijab which was actually a necklace, so I just snipped off the strings and attached it to her scarf! I kept her make-up also super simple with a silvery smoky eye so that her natural beauty shone for her photo's. I wanted her to look like herself so that she can look back and say "that was ME and I was beautiful" rather then "I looked like a drag queen" lol. Congrats to all the year 12 students and inshallah they get the best results possible! Amin!

I normally don't post runway pictures here but decided to do so for two reasons.1) I loved these looks and 2) I have NO outfit posts for you since I have been sick with some sort of bug and haven't been out. In fact I was so sick yesterday that I couldn't even complete a large make-up job I had been booked for. As bad as it looked I had to leave and go home or I felt I would have collapsed on the spot. Thus is the life of a teacher who is exposed to a multitude of gross germs from sickly students.. Ahhhh all I can say is ALHUMDULILLAH!

What does hijab mean to you? Does it mean to dress modestly? Does it mean to cover your hair? What about your hands and face too? There are many different interpretations of what hijab entails. For example some people I know believe that colourful hijabs are a big No-No whereas other people may think that this is not an issue at all. This topic is so hot that it is constantly being discussed and dissected to bits but there is one aspect of hijab that is always overlooked and rarely discussed, that is how a hijabi should behave. People are so worried about what she wore or what so and so said or what degree I have and how much money I make that they are forgetting their aklah. Rudeness is so common these days that it is rampant even amongst Muslim organisations. Salams ignored? Check. Insulting and putting each other down? Check. Laughing at anothers misfortune? Check. It's so easy to point fingers at one another and forget ourselves in nasty dialogue that it soon becomes OK to give Islamic advice in a demeaning manner. What ever happened to catching more bees with honey? Instead holy Hadith's are now barked into our faces without so much as a Salam for a greeting. I know of so many non-hijabi sisters who are the perfect model of modesty and have the kindest manners and then I know hijabi's who are so rude, arrogant and crude that they would turn anyone interested in Islam right off. Yes we should all try to help each other onto the right path but there is a time, a place and a manner in which things should be said. Don't embarrass your fellow sister amongst her peers, instead pull her aside and try to relate with her. Don't gossip behind her back about how much haram she is doing, instead try to guide her as a concerned friend. So my dears, hijab is not just something to cover our bodies with and the rest is good as gold. Hijab is also the way we interact, the way we smile at one another, the way we encourage each other, the way we praise the good and forget the bad, the way we perceive and want to be perceived and finally it is also about the way we behave and talk. To me these things are even more important then wearing hijab One cannot be covered from head to toe and also have a mouth a fisherman would be proud of. No, we must also love each other and respect one another without any ulterior motives. We must try to help each other in a way that endears us and makes us want to better ourselves. Always remember that nobody is perfect and people make mistakes, this is what makes us human and what makes us who we are and despite the fact that you may look the part, if your heart is filled with jealousy, anger and pride then mate, that does not make you a hijabi.

And please remember that anything I write also applies to me. We are all striving to better ourselves and Inshallah we can build and strengthen our Iman. Amin.

Ok so a quick note about the recent trends flooding Aussie stores lately and that is the tribal print. Today I did a little snooping on a well known shopping strip and saw that all the major chain stores are stocking tribal prints in many different colours. The most popular is the Aztec design which I think looks a lot like traditional Turkish prints. The top I am wearing is sort of tribal in my opinion so it fit right in. Don't you just love the funky sash??

The Black Forest

Again I went on a spur of the moment exploration expedition around my area and discovered some breathtaking scenery and quaint little towns. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures like I did the last time as I was driving but I did manage to pull over next to the 'Black Forest' (yes that is the actual name!) and snap a few shots of my outfit. Inshallah I will return over the next couple of weeks and this time I will make sure I am NOT driving :)

P.s There was a town we passed that looked like it had time warped from the 1950's so that is on my 'to take a picture' list inshallah!!

Another wonderful Eid spent with loved ones. But it aint over yet tomorrow is another day of visiting inshallah!! I was going to wear a bright block colour as a hijab with a colourful necklace but for some strange reason I was in a beige mood. So I swapped the bright for a more toned down look and added a maroon leather clutch as my subtle pop of colour.

Here are some pictures I took with my.. wait for it.. DIGITAL CAMERA! Yes you can take kick ass pictures with your digi-cam and according to my niece the amount of mega-pixels your camera packs is not the only determining factor of an awesome shot.
These pictures are of the area I live in, and also my backyard and YES I do live a few minutes away from farmland and cows! Haha when I first moved here 3 years ago my estate was brand new and there were only a couple of families established. I HATED it. It felt so quiet and rural especially since I grew up in inner city suburbs. But now I relish in the fact that the air is clean and there are beautiful landscapes for me to look at every time I walk out my front door. Subhanallah at Allah s.w.t's creations. Just looking at these pictures relaxes me.

Hands up if you love this colour? If you haven't noticed I certainly do and this silk army green shirt dress is
perfect for everyday wear. Durable and versatile is my motto when it comes to choosing clothing and fabrics. My belt was the leather strap of a bag I own ( I needed a super thin brown leather belt and couldn't find any in the great abyss (otherwise known as my wardrobe).

P.s Someone has hacked into my blog, hotmail and FB accounts and for some stupid reason my blog address doesn't work properly when typed into the search bar! Grrrrrr!! If you find yourself being redirected to a gospel song website do not be alarmed!! Simply try again and it should redirect you to my blog!! I am currently working on tracking the hackers with Google's help so inshallah the problem shall be fixed and the hackers found!!

Here is a sneak peek of my new leather bag sent to me lovingly by my regular sponsor over at Eish Bags & Accessories (link is also on the side bar ---------->) As stated before I love purple and green together and here is a mini outfit post of what shoes I wore with the bag. I must say the quality, style, colour, EVERYTHING of this bag is LOVE! I love the chain strap (which also doubles up as a belt and necklace as I have used it for both purposes myself) I love the soft buttery leather of the bag, I love its size not too big and definitely not too small but just right! I love its many compartments within, I love the fact that it can be turned into a clutch simply by unhooking the removable chain strap, I love its genuine leather smell but most of all I am loving its latch/lock on the front of the bag. So different and pretty!! Who can deny the beauty of such a luscious and versatile bag?

I will use this bag in a full outfit post very very soon I just haven't had the time since starting back to work again!! Hurry up summer holidaysssss!!!!

A Slash Of Pink

Salams!!
Here is a simple outfit I wore to dinner with friends a couple of weeks ago. Thin black peg-legs which are a loose fit (they are high -waisted so as you can see you can pair it with a long line top) a floral silk long top/dress that I only just wore after owning it for well over a year -_- and my favourite black cardigan which I have owned for maybe 6 years and Mashallah still looks brand new (it pays to pay a little extra $$ for your basics that you know you will wear for ever). My hijab was drapey and very flowy that night which was good and it covers a multitude of sins. I felt super comfortable and cool on a balmy night which I suppose makes for a perfect outfit. There were no jiggly bits hanging out and I felt assured that my backside was thoroughly covered by my dress and cardigan. There is nothing worse then going out to have a laugh but feeling flustered and annoyed instead because of an annoying outfit that just doesn't sit right.

Here I am with my baby boy at the zoo. I don't normally like to publish photos of my son here hence the cut off .. I initially published his picture with a love heart over his face but something made me delete it and cut him out entirely. I don't know why as you couldn't even see his face! Strange how mothers can be so over protective for no apparent reason.

Hands up if any of you own those new multi-length hem shirts/tops/dresses? What I mean about this is that the front is usually normal length and the back is much much longer.. Anyone?
These are totally awesome for large bottomed ladies. My issue is that my front view is fairly normal but my back.. lets just say its vast and never ending soooooo these shirts are the best for covering those derrieres.. Unless you want to flaunt it then in that case these shirts are not for you hehe. Annyyyywayyyyy here is my fairly average outfit featuring my totally ace shirt..

Ok first off I have a bone to pick with you all.. WHERE ARE YOU! I feel like I am blogging for no one. There are only 2 entries for the Veil Vision competition!! I love the combination of black and white stripes with a hint of pink. I personally think it brightens up the ensemble better then red (which is a color I am not too fond of wearing). The cardigan I am wearing is by Alannah Hill who I think is the cardigan genius. Look at the cute multicolored buttons!
The pink envelope clutch was purchased in Malaysia last year. Oh how I miss that beautiful hot country! Many people complain about its hot sticky heat but I love it! Inshallah I am planning on returning to Malaysia next year! Anyway the clutch actually came with a pink strap which I wasn't too fond of so what I did was swap the pink strap with the chain strap that came with my Marc Jacobs bag. I love the look of a gold chain strap much better then a plain pink strap and I think it adds a lot more jazz to the outfit (lol jazz is such an oldies word!)

Sorry about the slightly lame pictures and poses but SOMEONE ahem ahem *husband* couldn't be bothered taking pictures for me.. I DEFINITELY need a tripod..

I love hijabs! I own a ridiculous amount which I know is BAD and unnecessary but in my own defense heaps of them are old.. Anyway, this leopard print inspired hijab is one of my new faves especially worn in my new style (I will try to make a tutorial soon). It is soft and glamorous with its little slashes of gold around the leopard dots. My niece is also wearing a square hijab in the shawl style but in a more summery print which is also divine.

Wedding

It is wedding season! As the weather gets warmer here in Australia people are getting married!!
I attended a huge wedding last weekend with a few members of my family. There were over 800 people there and the placed was buzzing with familiar faces! I think for a wedding of that size everything went pretty smoothly Alhumdulillah. I haven't included any pictures of the bride here as I didn't get the opportunity to ask permission to post them! I love weddings as I am a bit of a sociologist (well I did double major in Anthropology and Sociology lol). I love watching people, I love analyzing the way people interact and socialize with each other. And with a wedding this size you have plenntyyyy of people to watch!

In the past when I have worn a square as a shawl I always had zero back coverage but I spotted this style on a friend at work and thought I would give it a squizz. Somalia Fundraiser Iftaar

Last night was the Somalia Fundraiser Iftaar organised by a bunch of sisters (one of which is my sister :) which was a HUGE success Alhumdulillah!! This event was organised within a couple of weeks and everything was donated, designed, distributed free of charge and ALL profits as in 100% of everything raised is going to Somalia through Muslim Aid Australia. The tally so far has reached $28,480.50!! How awesome is that??

Well done girls! You know who you are!!

I admit I used to hate blazer jackets.. I would say to my sisters "I don't like them they feel too boxy". But I bow my head and say apologetically that I love them now.. When did my change of heart appear? Who knows but what I do know is that now I own three blazers and considering buying a silk version I saw online. I want more more MORE! I love the fact that they suit curvy figures so well and really add shape and dimension to an otherwise blahhhh outfit (blahhh = boring).

I just want to say a huge thank you to all those people who donated to the Somalia Famine Fundraiser. It was ended a little early and I actually wasn't aware of this until recently but we still managed to raise a whopping $1223 through Hegab-Rehab, Sorayya, and Coco's Pearls and Hijab Revival (I think there were a few more but I'm not 100% certain) and all the proceeds went to Muslim Aid which will forward it all to Somalia Inshallah! Review ~ Sigma Travel Brush Kit

If you haven't heard of this beauty brand before then clean out your ears and listen! Sigma is a fantastic US brand with a variety of brush kits, individual brushes and eye shadow pallets on a budget. It provides quality brushes at a fraction of the cost of higher end brands such as MAC and Napoleon (and I mean FRACTION). You can pay hundreds of dollars for a brush kit from designer cosmetics shops which in my opinion is far too much money. I mean if you are a makeup artist then it is essential to have the right tools in order to do the great work but expensive doesn't always mean the best. When I first received the Sigma travel brush kit I did a quick feel test on my face and was flabbergasted at how soft these brushes were! So soft and flexible with no hair fall out at all. I tugged at the brushes fibers and did not get any bits falling out! In the brush roll you get seven brushes each with its own wonderful purpose. There is pretty much everything you need in the kit in order to create a flawless look. I used every single brush in this kit to create the following look:

> Whats the deal? Well the reason why these brushes are so divine and soft is because they are made of natural bristles. The only brush that had a mixture of synthetic fibers and natural bristles was the F50 stippling brush (which was sent as an extra gift to me :) and even that brush was super soft.
The brushes came in a secure box which meant there was no damage to the brushes at all. They were wrapped up in a gorgeous little drawstring bag with an instruction pamphlet on how to clean and take care of your brushes.
> Overall score? 10/10. I simply loved these brushes and am seriously considering purchasing the full brush kit for my professional makeup work.

 Yesterday on the news my mind was bombarded with images of the starving millions facing death on an every day basis in the horn of Africa. We have all seen these images before...and I'm so sad to say a lot of the time we change the channel, and we, in some distorted way have become immune to these images. We say 'how sad' and move along with our consumerist ways. This year I don't know what happened but the images and news reels spoke to my heart like never before. Imagine, just imagine not being able to feed your dying child. The feeling of hopelessness and destitution. Honestly the tears and sadness we feel can never understand what these people experience. So I decided to give myself a big kick up the backside and organise some type of fundraising effort. Now with the help of a small committee, here in Melbourne we will be holding a fundraising Iftar dinner, the most blessed month to give sadaqa inshAllah! All the info needed is here and will be updated as we book the venue etc. For those of you who cant attend or are overseas you can donate through the paypal link on the right of this screen or I can send you bank details. Dig deep ladies, any amount small or big will help in ways we cannot imagine.

Here are the facts:East Africa is facing a humanitarian crisis of enormous magnitude. 
Eleven million people are affected, the equivalent of half the entire Australian population. Amongst them are more than TWO MILLION CHILDREN who are malnourished, 500,000 are suffering severe malnutrition and need urgent aid to avert death.

Drought, on-going armed conflict and inflation causing escalating food prices, have triggered one of the sharpest refugee outflows in a decade. 
Urgent life-saving actions are needed to PREVENT the DEATHS of an estimated 500,000 severely malnourished CHILDREN. In addition over 2 million children are malnourished and require urgent supplementary nutrition.

I went to a new store at a local mall called Daiso which is sort of a Japanese $2 shop but instead everything and I mean EVERYTHING is priced at $2.80. There were so many weird and wonderful things there and we had a real giggle over a few products (see picture 6). The catch with these sort of places is that even though everything is uber cheap you actually end up spending more than intended! You literally walk down the aisles saying "Oh I need this!" and "Oh I can do with one of those!".

Leopard and Stripes

My new leopard print fury wedges with my stripe long-line top. I wore a black hijab for the first time in agessss (I generally wear it only for formal events when I usually have heavier makeup on. For everyday when I have much lighter makeup on, it can make me look washed out as I am so fair skinned) But this black hijab was actually a pashmina which was nice and something different for me.
p.s boohoo for me with no one to take my pictures..

I found these pictures on M.H Hijabs and More FB page and I felt really inspired and by their style. I own a few cotton hijabs that I have worn Turkish style but thought I would give this look a bash. I love it and felt really comfortable and glamorous with the hijab accessories. Also as the hijab's were cotton it was really easy to wear and keep on my head as opposed to the usual Turkish satin hijabs I wear.
Check out the M.H store on FB as they have smashing looks as well as cuuute hijab accessories that I would love to try one day Inshallah.

As you can see these are quality products at minimal cost. You can purchase a whole bunch of these bangles and pendants and still have money to spare. I don't know about where you live but you certainly cant find gold plated jewels here in Australia at those prices! I really loved the way these babies sparkled at night and they definitely added some razzle-dazzle to my ensemble. Another major plus was how easy it was to wear these bangles! There are no annoying clasps or tricky hooks its as simple as lifting a little latch and clasping the bangle around your wrist! Voile!

Weekend Wear ~ Wool Dress Over Wool Skirt

Its a little nippy here in Melbourne as it is winter though I must say Aussie winters are not as bad as many other countries. We still get the odd sunshine and days that reach 18 Celsius (64.4 Fahrenheit)
I love this fact as I am soooooo not a winter person. So anyway to make a long story short I wore a wool dress over a wool skirt.

Has anyone else noticed the emergence of over-sized tops in most retail stores? Well I have and I have stuck to this trend like glue and I AM NOT LETTING GO! I mean what is more modest then a shapeless over-sized top that does not stick to your body at all? I think it is even more modest then a Turkish abaya I own that skims my body and shows it shape. Aside from the modesty factor, I also happen to think it looks very chic and neat.

Ahhhhh we are here at the end once again! What a fast journey it was! Day 7 is all about shnazzy party hostess outfits which can mean casual or formal. I decided to go for smart casual, something that is neat and nice but also super comfy. The cute bow shoulder top I'm wearing is from Sorayya Design as is the mint hijab. Can you believe I bought this gorgeous abaya from Sorayya Design !! It was on sale and nobody bought it so I snapped it up and every time I wear this I get asked a million questions as to where I bought it from. I love its bat sleeves, its silver tipped arms and silver piping along the seams. It is something that I wear casually and formally just by changing my hijab and shoes! I think its a winner!!

HFW Day 4 ~ Date Night

Here is my day 4 outfit which is made up of my fave hijab of the moment as well as my fave dress. I love this dress soooo much that I have been wearing it every weekend for the last two weeks (eeek! bad I know!) All I do is pop this wool dress on and change my hijab! It cannot get easier then that now can it??

I love the color green and purple combined which is why I think I love this hijab so much. The best thing about this dress is that it can be dressed up or down which is what I did here.

HFW Day 2 ~ Formal Wear

OK so my idea of formal wear is not as formal as some.. I think the outfit minus the cardigan is pretty formal as my sweater has sequins on it and I am wearing heels but as this skirt is waaaay too tight to display on the internet I wont unleash my sexiness for all to see :P Hehe but seriously if I were at an all womens even I would definitely take the cardigan off and rock n roll!

I love this skirt oh so much as the style, length, fabric and design are right up my alley. I have always had a soft spot for maxi tube skirts so when I saw this I knew I had to have it.

Lezzet And Friends..

I went out to dinner last night to a beautiful restaurant called Lezzet with my sister and two friends. We first arrived at this restaurant at 6.40 and were promptly seated and served drinks and water. We ordered appetizers and mains and while we waited we sipped on tiny glasses of traditional Turkish ayran (a yogurt drink) which had a different and yet pleasant sweet twist. The food arrived super fast and delicious and we were wowed by the flavors and modern take on the Turkish inspired food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was so nice and welcoming. Its decor not only added authenticity but also warmth and comfort. I have to say that this is the best Turkish restaurant I have ever been to and will definitely go back sometime soon. I had such a good giggle with my friends and to top it off I got to reunite one of my old primary school friends again as he was the owner and head chef of this fantastic restaurant! Take a look at the fooooood!!!

Wedding Fever..

Here are some pics of a wedding I attended last night! I was actually the makeup artist for the bridal party too. I was literally laughing from 5 am in the morning (whilst doing their makeup) until 11pm at night. Mashallah everyone and everything was beautiful!

I had a pre-wedding clothes dilemma as I didn't know what to wear so luckily I am a clothes hoarder/shopaholic and found a gorgeous Charlie Brown dress I had bought last year and never wore (tags still on). It was a plain black tulip style maxi dress with bat wing sleeves and cute mirror embellishments on the front. I shnazzied it up with silver jewelry and awesome makeup :)

Congratulations beautiful Latife! You made a stunning bride! May your marriage be a blessed one with lots of barakat and laughter and tons of children!! Amin!

I attended a wedding last night with a couple of my sisters and niece's at a beautiful reception here in Melbourne. As it was a Friday night I was absolutely buggered after work and I practically had to force dress myself. But having said that I'm glad I went as I got to catch up with old friends and have a laugh with my sisters (not to mention chow down on the most delicious reception food I have ever had! Seriously it was divine!)

P.s I had NOTHING to wear so I threw on a few old favorites with a few new accessories and a blouse my sister was throwing out :P (hahahaha Ebru it is mine now ALL MINE)

What I Wore Today ~ Sunny Saturday Stripes

Ever had the problem of hijab color with an outfit that has a pattern or design on it? I had that dilemma today as I was wearing an olive green stripe top with black. Now the obvious choice would be a white or black or green hijab. But as I hate white and slightly detest black hijabs and didn't have the right shade green hijab, I opted for a neutral beige toned hijab. Teamed with nude wedges and nude beads, I felt quite comfortable and colorful without going over the top.
